CB Radio
I really want to get a CB radio.. But don't know what I should be looking for.. All the descriptions on ebay are all in gibberish..
So does anyone know what ones are good or know if any are for sale anywhere?

Re: CB Radio
Cooper & Elms in Kings Lynn up the side street by the Cinema. Thats where I got mine, they do a range of aerials ( different colours etc) & brackets.
rough costs are £60+ for the unit. £10 for the gutter mount bracket and from £10 for the whippy aerial.

Re: CB Radio
I was going to put the aerial at the back like Gollys, would I need to get a bracket mount for that?

Re: CB Radio
cant remember how Marks got his rigged up????
You will need a gutter mount if you mount it on the edge of the roof like mine. Mag mount are ok but I personally dont like them, plus they have a tendancy to damage the roof panel.

If you want to drill the panel anywhere to fit an ariel you will need a knuckle mount or DV27 mount as they used to be called....
i will find you a link of the fleebay thing and post it here.....

Re: CB Radio
You will also need this to connect the ariel to the base..
This alows you to angle the ariel ...

Re: CB Radio
Hi,
I'm currently in the process of installing my cb radio, waiting for the rest of the parts to arrive. I'm removing the wing aerial that came with the car and replacing it with a cb aerial. I'm using a CB / Car Radio Splitter to allow my radio to work.
I bought following odds and ends;
Midland 78+ (Maplin)
Tornado Stinger Aerial (Maplin)
CB / Radio Splitter (4x4cb.com)
Wing Mount + 5m Cable (4x4cb.com)
Angle Adaptor (4x4cb.com)
Hope this helps.

Re: CB Radio
Update;
Currently using a spare mag mount for the sunday as the wing mount angle adaptor hasn't arrived yet. Tested it this evening, all seems to be working ok.
I'm using this adaptor for adjusting the angle as it allows you to keep the original screw type mount opposed to the DV type.
http://www.4x4cb.com/public/item.cfm?itemID=1135 it doesn't really matter what you use really.

Re: CB Radio
I put my CB in temporarily for the run the other day and used my old mag mount on the roof but it doesn't look great and I had to put a cloth between the mount and roof.
I now want to install it properly to make it look nice and tidy
Just had a look on 4x4cb and saw this...
http://www.4x4cb.com/public/item.cfm?itemID=1086
It says its built mainly for mini's and sounds good but has anyone tried one or know if they are any good.
Looks like it could work really well and means you don't have to drill any panels.
Got my Radio from the Aylsham car boot for £5 and it works really well, apart from the annoying beep that everyone hates

Re: CB Radio
Brilliant! I have just got that off the site so it should arrive in a couple of days I hope it will be nice to be able to have the aerial on all the time, at the moment I keep it in the back when its not used, so people that have the fun of sitting in the back get attacked by a Stinger

Re: CB Radio
Got my CB boot lid mount through today and it works really well I put it at the bottom so the aerial doesn't stick up beyond the roof as much, haven't tried driving with it yet...Im worried it might smack other cars bonnets at the lights
I haven't tested the range yet but I will do that when im next in norwich and can find some other people

Re: CB Radio
This is the mount I went for:
CB AERIAL BODY MOUNT FOR LORRY 4X4 DEFENDER 5M CABLE
and found it on fleebay.
It's placed on the offside down by the lights. When fitting make sure the panel is as vertical as possible
