Re: Anglia Car Auctions Saturday 7th March
To add more detail to this rather fantastic day, me and Tim met up in groovy Stalham at 10 am and picked up the honourable Mr Mark Bedford at his equally groovy pad in Norwich at 10-30 am. We set out for Kings Lynn and arrived just as the auction started. A couple of lots into it I spotted Mr Clarkson and pointed it out to my distinguished collegues. We soon spotted Hammond and May with him and a TV camera. As far as I can remember, Clarkson bought a Triumph 2000 auto, May bought an Austin Healey Sprite and I think Hammond bought a 1960 Lanchester.
There wasn't to much in the way of autojumble, mainly books and manuals, but there was a Mountney wood rim steering wheel for £10.
After the auction we had an all day breakfast at the on site cafe. On payment we were issued with a number, in our case 61. The waitress soon came forth with 2 breakfasts and shouted out to the assembled multitude,
"number 51, number 51".
Wingnut said it was us and we soon tucked in. Just as we finished, the waitress came out and shouted,
"number 61, number 61".
It dawned on us that we had eaten someone elses order..........
"I think we had better make ourselves scarce",
was Wingnut's next comment, which we did.
I had a longstanding invitation to go and see Ron and Sue's work in progress 1966 Mini Cooper in Norwich, so I phoned Ron up and arranged for the 3 of us to go and see it. Taking pity on those who are unfortunately Mini-less I let Wingnut drive my ADO20 back to Norwich. In the Norwich traffic Wingnut managed to beat a 20 year old Toyota MR2 off the line which upset the young male driver who was using it as a penis extension to impress the brain dead bimbo seated beside him.
We arrived at Ron's house and were impressed by what we saw. He has done most of the work himself and is nearing completion. After that it was back to Wingnut's place for tea. Then me and Tim left for a Mini blast along the A47 on the way home.
All in all a great day.
