Which petrol to use
I have just become the owner of a 1987 998c Mayfair. She hasn't been converted to unleaded yet. My questions are which unleaded petrol should I put in? How much and how easy is it to get converted. May Thanks

Re: Which petrol to use
You can buy a casterol aditive to put in the take every fill up, otherwise the unleaded will destroy the seats as they are softer....
The easiest way is to change the head... about an hours job...

Thank you for the info. Can you give me any pointer with the conversion, as I am not too car savy yet. PS I wasn't at my computer when I added the pic.

I'll let you off
I'm sure someone who has carried out the conversion will be along soon enough.

Re: Which petrol to use
you can either have the seats recut but a machinist....
but the cheapest way is to put another head on, which you can eastly pick up from ebay....
Then just follow the hanyes manual to taking the head off...

Re: Which petrol to use
To change the head you will have to make sure the car is stone cold.
and there is a sequance to follow in taking the head bolts off
When changing the head you will need
new oil
head gasket set
might aswell change the thermostat wile its all of
feelier gauge to set the tappets up after
it not a bad job to do but it takes me alot longer then an hour to do what with the oil change, sanding the block, getting the studs out and setting up the tappets.
But if you just change the head and gasket an hour is about right.

Re: Which petrol to use
oh and if you are going to buy a head of ebay, the best move would to have the head skimmed and crack tested just to be on the safe side...
This doesn't cost much no more than £100 but it can stop a lot of trouble...
