Space shuttles for sale, $31 million each, one careful owner
NASA is selling three retired space shuttles - for an astronomical $31 million each.
Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavour have a top speed of 17,231mph and come complete with sick bags.
They have been launched 129 times since 1981, have completed 13,662 orbits and have a combined mileage of 341,311,994.
The cost includes transportation overland on the back of a 747 jumbo jet, plus a clean-up to get rid of "noxious radiation".
But there is a catch - they have no engines.
Discovery has already been snapped up by America's National Air and Space Museum, in Washington.
NASA has had 20 inquiries about the other two. The deadline for bids is February 19.
NASA spokesman Allard Beutel called them "engineering marvels".
But he added: "It's important to point out that these shuttles are not for sale to someone wishing to fly off into space."
