I am having real problems with my 1989 automatic mayfair. Is there a local knight ( or Knightess ) out there who can help me to get my little baby back on the road by london to brighton. I live in thorpe in norwich ( not far from the Cottage pub! )

Well to put it simply she suddenly decided to only go backwards so I picked up a new engine and gearbox from ebay , put it in and she was great for about two days when the same thing happened again. I asked on minifinity and someone told me it may be worn out plates in the forward clutch but gave little idea what that job entails! The good thing is I have the origanal engine already out and sitting near mousehold to work on but Ive never tried anything so technical before and being a bear of very little brain I could do with some help!
This shiny polished hobby of mine is sitting in my driveway being very little use while I am left paying out to buy a ford escort to get me to work!

Hmmm

Have you tried replacing the selector? Is seems very strange that the same thing has happened on two different gearboxes.
There is not such thing as a forward clutch lol
An automatic uses a torque converter..

This seems like a selection problem, I would be happy to look and point you in the right direction.
If I can rectify the fault maybe a small donation to east anglian air ambulance?
