have you tried changing the thermostat, this could be sticking?? engine timing out?? dodgy water pump

i take it you've got the right level of anti freeze in there

is it an injection or normal engine??

Is it air locked? Is everything tightened up, are you losing water? How high is the gauge actually going?

Its something ive seen lots of times before but wouldnt
i know some people that drill holes around the metal ring aswell but wouldnt
thease things come as a quick fix but dont get rid of the real problem which is the making everything work as it should

You thermostat keeps your engine at the correct operating temparature and allows the water into the rad to cool when it gets too hot. If you take it out, your engine wont get to correct temp or it will take longer to get there which will cause problems in the long term. Check water pump and matrix for sludge build up.
