Re: NEC Classic Car Show November 13th to 15th 2009
Wow what a great day !
I wuz a bit apprehensive as the media were giving us predictions of flash floods and hurricane force winds. I arrived at Wingnut Towers at about 0815 hours to pick up Wingnut and the Studd's who had been devouring the magnificent breakfast served up by the master of the house. Dan and Peter had been there since 0700 hours recieving a Mini Model tutorial from the master himself.
It did rain heavilly in places, but about halfway there the rain stopped and the rest of the journey was uneventful.
It took about two and a half hours to get there and we parked up and went in passing billboards advertising the forthcoming "attractions" at the NEC. One of them was a 1970's nostalgia bill, which only served to remind me why the decade was crap !
The car show was sharing the NEC with a dentistry exhibition, but we decided to give that a miss. The show was packed with people and we spent longer looking around than ever before.
Dan, Peter and Wingnut spent all their cash on Mini models, and I bought Jaguar books. We finally left the show after 6 pm but had trouble finding our way out of the NEC building, having to ask several officials for directions.
We left the NEC after 7 pm with Wingnut driving and found the A14 had much reduced traffic levels which made the return journey relaxing. We arrived back at Wingnut Towers at around 9-30 pm and I didn't get home until 10-15 pm.
It was a fantastic day with fantastic company. Pics to follow.

One of the unique cars there was this Triumph Herald hatchback prototype built in 1965 and now restored.

My last contribution as I shouldn't really be uploading pics in this section.
A 1966 Morris 1800 MK1 similar to the example my father had. Marvel at the space saving Issigonis interior.

It occurs to me that a strip style speedometer fitted to the 1800 and other cars of the period could be fitted to a Mini if slotted into a custom made dashboard.

Very fun day, walked around the building getting advice on which models were the best to buy from Mr Wingnut (when he wasn't drooling over the hammerite girls) Haha.
Probably one of the best shows of the year..
