Re: Project 'Tommy' - 1996 Equinox Spi
The Rovers Return!
Well, after 37 full days work, two new angle grinders and a new drill as well as loads of drill bits/cutting disks and a few welding fires (small!) - Tommy is finished!!
It's certainly been an experience and I feel I know the car better than when I started which must be a good thing. I now know he is currently hole free, and I've enjoyed getting to grips with grinding/welding and thoroughly recommend it - great fun and satisfying to see those holes go!
That's the outside done apart from the decals which we will have a monochrome union jack once the paint has fully dried - I'll post pics on these.
Give me a few months of recovering and getting some money again I'll turn my attentions to the interior which have not really been touched yet. The Equinox interior is really smart on it's own - just need fancy things like new carpets/dash etc and maybe a few more dials/switches and possibly a new steering wheel!
Thanks to Leigh and Tim of Classic Mini Pit Stop, who helped me on the welding and paint bits I was not sure of as well as lots of other things.. I hope your business grows and will certainly be recommending you.
Even whilst in my garage, neighbours have come up to see how it's going - people I've never really spoken to before - even the 'grumpy bloke' who is sure he owns the garages where I live has come around several times to offer encouragement and reminisce (he used to sell Mini's at Mann Egerton!).
Update on the courts - court goes in my favour 100%, defendant did'nt pay, bailiffs called in ('Warrant of Execution' - love that name!) but to date nothing back, so looks like the whole small claims court process is a farce as I have had to pay £170 to enforce the court decision which they subsequently did'nt really enforce - I personally would not bother again - I never really knew justice was optional until I needed it. I found it very interesting that throughout this whole process, Trading Standards were not interested at all!
Am I bitter? - just a bit, but we now have a nice mini and the cowboy has a CCJ on his buisness records so we probably came out better (if not financially!), so time to move on and forget and enjoy the world of being a mini owner!
The end result....

Well done indeed, look forward to seeing it in the shows next year
Also, if you don't mind me asking, where did you get that grille from as I've got the same on mine and need a replacement.
